This essay proposes to deepen the legacy of the outgoing, synodal Church with open doors, of the late Pope Francis, in the face of the antagonism of clericalism, understood as an obstacle to the realization of a synodal and missionary Church, by means of a bibliographic survey. His magisterium points to an ecclesial renewal that integrates mission and synodality, opening new theological and pastoral horizons based on closeness, inclusion and hope. However, clericalism is one of the main challenges and obstacles to the proposal of the outgoing synodal Church. It is not an individual problem, but of a structural, cultural and ecclesial nature, rooted in a distorted understanding of authority and sacredness, which affects the experience of synodality and mission, by threatening the ecclesial reforms promoted by Francis.
