Abstract

With the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Vatican II on October 11, 2022, it is safe to say that much has been discussed and continues to be discussed regarding the Church's Mission. Missionaries are required to discover new paths for a more dialogical encounter with human beings, which is present in today's society, characterized by postmodernity. We are convinced that this is a never-ending process, requiring a constant reading and interpretation of the "signs of the times," impelling us to seek new paths for the Church's Evangelizing and Missionary Action. To this end, the text we present retraces the historical journey of the Latin American and Caribbean Church, from the Second Vatican Council through the General Conferences; it also aims to analyze the reception of the Aparecida Document by the Pontificate of Pope Francis. Considering the historical trajectory of the Latin American and Caribbean Church and the spiritual legacy of Pope Francis, of a missionary, disciple-oriented, and synodal Church, we find elements of paramount importance that can help improve current Mission Models. Therefore, it is urgent to be determined to plan a missionary project in tune with "the joys and hopes, the sorrows and anxieties of modern-day people, especially the poor and all who suffer" (Vatican II, GS 1). In other words, we need to break free from the comfort of "it has always been done this way" and embark on a bold, creative mission, with the courage to rethink the methods/models of Evangelization in accordance with the new demands of today's world (EG, 33).
